Offer to help

Today, I helped a person during a time of need. No one asked me to. I just did it. I felt it was my obligation for humanity. I felt humbled by this experience.

All I can say is if you have the chance to help someone without getting any type of compensation--do it. Be a good Samaritan, do a random act of kindness.

Kindess will spread.

Thinking on Sunday

    Thinking on Sunday...
  1. List five things about nature that fascinate you. If you are not sure, study nature. Go outside and observe the details.
  2. What would happen if each and every one of us volunteered at least one hour per week?
  3. Did you call your parents today? How about a friend you haven't spoken to in years?
  4. Are you buying things that you really don't need? Why? Can it be avoided? If so, how?
  5. Do you try something new at least once a day? (It may be scary at first, but it is definitely worth it).

Friday's Blessings: Appreciation For Others

Today, things are looking better, thank God. Family, friends and myself have thanked others for their kind and hard work. It is very important to feel appreciated. I wanted those to know. I sincerely have great respect for others who help people. How awesome!!

I want to thank those who help humanity, big or small. Thank you. Without you, the world wouldn't have been the same.

Special circumstances

I apologize for not posting yesterday. I have had special circumstances that I could not post. However, I am hoping that this circumstance will improve, so everything could be the same or even better.

During this time right now, family has come together. Unfortunately, we don't always come together during non circumstances times. There are some I haven't seen in a couple of years except for the past two days.

Family is a vital thing in society and is strongly needed to help each other through trying times. Yet, family should be there in good times as well. How many people in this world to not know their family? Immediate or Extended? If people had strong family units, society would have less problems because people would be held accountable by their family members.

People say yes, but friends can do the same. Not always because it depends on your meaning of friends. Even most religions emphasize the family thing. If you already have a strong family unit, good for you. Keep it up. If you have a weak family unit, try to strengthen it. If you don't have a family unit, try to build it.

Monday Surprise: Conversing with a police officer unexpectedly

Community helpers include, but are not limited to police officers, firefighters, and mail carriers. At least that is what young children learn. Many young children are afraid of police officers and firefighters, although they have nothing to worry about.

Today, my son and I went to city hall, which houses the police station as well. While we were waiting for our appointment, a female police officer walks out and greets my son and I. I said to my son, "She is our friend and is a good person." I explained to the officer that my son is afraid of them. She shook hands with my son, and began telling him in a kind manner that police officers and firefighters are friends. She gave him stickers, a charity bracelet, and a teddy bear that needed a home.

She then asked my son, if he would like a tour of the station. We went on a brief tour. My son became comfortable after a while, and started asking her questions. I was real pleased with the outcome, and I thanked her for her efforts. I am planning to mail a thank you note to the police station.

Need discipline? Enroll in martial arts!

Today was the first official day, my son participated in a martial arts class. What I mean by official is class started last week, however, we missed it because our paper had the wrong time printed. We ended up watching the older group of kids practice martial arts.

Martial arts does teach discipline for children and adults. My son is enrolled in a three-six year old class. Imagine dealing with their attention span? I have to give the "master" (martial arts teacher) his props because he has lots of patience. Some of the three year olds did not pay attention at all to their master, but by the end of the session, most of the children paid attention.

It was cute and funny to see my son copy like his master. Every time, he looked my way, I would smile and give him a thumbs up. My son felt proud. When we came home, my son showed what he learned in front of family. He kicked and yelled "Ice!"

Before we left, my son's master told everyone that parents must record one good deed in a notebook a day done by our children. This is to strengthen character. I thought that was a great idea because this will be a learning process for my son on gaining self discipline and control.

Although, this is the second class, my son and I are already pleased with the process. I strongly encourage parents to enroll their daughters and sons in sports--it doesn't have to be martial arts. There are many advantages that outweigh disadvantages.

Not only will they gain physical strength, they will gain the mental strength needed for them to handle the world when they become adults.

Free SAT Test Preparation Resource

Preparing for the SATs can be an overwhelming experience for college bound students. However, there is a free website by SATExamPrep.com that offers study guides with focuses on math, writing, and a critical reading section.

The website satexamprep.com does ask for personal information, and you can elect to or not to receive news, announcements from SAT Prep, their partners and other forms of educational opportunities.

I would highly recommend this resource to college bound students to use as a supplement for their SAT experiences, whether testing or preparing.

Interested? Go to www.satexamprep.com, and take a look around. Be sure to read the about section at www.satexamprep.com/about_SAT.html, for more information.

Some people still have a long way to go...

Overall, in my opinion, the U.S. has made big time progress for people with disabilities. The U.S. is not perfect yet. I mean there are faults and weaknesses that need to be fixed and strengthened. I have seen some people treat people with disabilities not with much respect.

We need to educate more people about people with disabilities. People with disabilities are human just like most of us. They have many talents, dreams, and skills to offer towards humanity. If you don't know much about disabilities, read. Talk to someone. Attend meetings and workshops.

Educate yourself. Then share what you learned with someone else. You will be glad you did.

This is awesome!
