Do you know who you are?

"Who are you?" I ask my college students on the first day of class. Many of them look at me, unsure how to answer the question. I, then go on, saying, "If you don't know who you are, then who are you becoming?"

You would be surprised that many don't know how to answer that question. Should we blame anyone or something? Should we blame society? Parents? Schools? Yourselves? This could be a dialogue in itself. I am not interested in blaming someone or something. I am interested to see if you are willing to take the challenge of knowing yourself.

Are you willing to do that? It is not going to be an easy journey. The road taken may be bumpy or a long one during your journey. Once you know who you are, do you stop learning? Or is it an evolving process as long as we live?

By knowing ourselves, we may better understand the role we play or should play in education.

Just my thoughts and humble opinions.
